The Party Card Psychic column was supposed to be Psychic Tier. So you would see T0 or T1 at this point. At this point if you have it, it means you also are using the Ovoid and thus have Blast immunity. Unless other psychic attacks are created it doesn't seem necessary to note Blast.

I had a wicked idea on resistances though. Especially in the planes I can see some things getting flipped around. Sort of like how the undead cow would took damage from healing. Especially if it's random a bit, like for one room or a certain monster that takes a (randomly-determined at the beginning of the encounter) resistance and flips it to a bonus damage from that type instead. So a -3 cold resistance could add up to 3 damage if you are attacked with cold. So 1 cold becomes 2, 2 becomes 4, 3 becomes 6, but 4 would be 7. While it could be a trickier than normal thing, it should work fine on a monster that is otherwise a bit easier (AC or HP -wise). I think it would be interesting in that if we knew it might happen, would we wear that same resistance gear?

Hmmm, my memory of Coaches training was that this was a yes or no box. We were told that players managed the tier level. Of course it was either 0 or 1 this year.

That is not an accurate statement.

As one of the Coach Coordinators I can tell you that column had a binary value. Either the PC had psychic powers or did not. No coach should have written a number in those cells.
Have you looked it up in the TDb?

Is that something that could be recorded? It would be based on the number of teeth and the possession of the Ioun stone, right?

Of course it could. But when the DMs were asked before the 2015 Party card was finalized, they said they didn't want/need to know what level of power the PC had.

That might be something to think about in the future as more psychic powers are added for players.

Of course, I know that would be yet another think coaches might have to check, and I think coaches are overloaded as it is.

My bad. The spreadsheet party card had more information than required then.

Seems like this is the way it will have to play out in the future though. A waste of space otherwise to have a giant checkbox.

If all that goes in that box is a count of how many unique Teeth someone has, that doesn't seem so bad. The majority of players won't be psychic anyway, and 99% (a guess) of the rest will have a pre-printed party card.

But assuming players will self-manage their psychic powers as they do HP, there's really not much reason for coaches to worry about it. That said, I was writing "T0" or "T1" on the Grind party cards, but I hadn't seen the coach training that told me not to bother.

Grind has used Psychic levels already, tho, so we've needed to know the actual level. And Grind has a history of doing their card a little different.

Kind of reminds me of the old days, when there were separate columns for HoP, RoR, and CoGF. And then they fortunately streamlined things by having a simple column for all treasure generators.

If they're going to have a column for Psychic, you might as well make the most of it and write a number (instead of a Y/N). That's my personal two cents.

Folks,

The party card changes every year. It's not set in stone. If TPTB need/want the psychic column to change, it will change.

Of course the problem with your suggestion is things like the Supreme Ring which means you can even ignore -10 Shock, -10 Fire, -10 Cold, and -10 Sonic in a single attack. And the Topaz Trilliant is common enough amongst high level players that they mostly have -15 Darkrift as well.

Guess they should've thought of that before they made it then, eh? :-P

More seriously, I still don't see that as a problem. Make things nastier on Hardcore/Nightmare (and tell people, specifically, what to expect) and those higher players will have to deal with it. If high power resists are so frequent then perhaps a further revision is necessary, but the idea in general seems sound.

And if we're tuning dungeons based on a few high power players, 1) that's self defeating, and 2) that's only a problem with those few high power players in the group. Presuming they're also more inclined to forming groups, that means that X% of runs are more easily handled (or require further challenges). Doesn't mean mechanics aren't sound because 1 or 5% (or however many) of parties can manhandle that challenge.

Really, how many of these things are out there? Out of 8,000 tickets, how many will be filled with people packing those things? Hundreds? Obviously some manner of challenging those parties is a worthy goal, but let's not overlook that a simple answer could benefit a great many normal runs (and perhaps even some borderline Hardcore ones as well). When we're talking Nightmare geared players, that's a whole other ballgame, from everything I've read. That becomes a situation to deal with on higher difficulties.

A player packing full Rares/UR's in a Normal game is going to likely be a dominating force (if they choose to be) whether they have -5 resist or -10 or -50.
